Largest independent practice in the Roaring Fork Valley provides even more care for community

Glenwood Springs, CO, October 11, 2018— Glenwood Medical Associates continues to grow with the addition of five new providers, making the roster of the largest independent practice in the Roaring Fork Valley even more robust.

Doctors Carla Ginsburg, David Miller, and Kathleen Rieves and Physician Assistants Colleen Farnum and Beth Jackson bring their decades of experience and dedication in various medical fields to the community and are now available for appointments.

Carla H. Ginsburg, MD, MPH, AGAF
Primary Practice: Gastroenterology
“I became a doctor because I wanted a career where I could make a difference in peoples’ lives on both a personal and broader community level,” relates Dr. Ginsburg. Dovetailing off her extensive immunology research in Inflammatory Bowel Disease as Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Ginsburg collaborated with the Center for Disease Control and the American Gastroenterological Association to create a national program that provides pro bono colonoscopies to the under-insured and the uninsured. She brings years of experience to GMA, as well as the ability to foster trusting relationships with her patients built on open communication. “It is important for a physician to have empathy and compassion, and I hope I convey that to my patients,” Dr. Ginsburg says.

David W. Miller, MD
Primary Practice: Neurosurgery
Dr. Miller is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he captained the varsity soccer team, and Temple University School of Medicine. He did his neurosurgical residency at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, where he was named the outstanding surgical resident in training. Following his training, Dr. Miller served as a staff neurosurgeon at the Cleveland Clinic, until he elected to enter private practice. In 2004, he was voted “One of the best doctors in Denver” in 5280 Magazine and ultimately settled in the Roaring Fork Valley as its first neurosurgeon in 2007. In 2010, he was awarded the Spirit of Caring Physician Champion Award at Valley View Hospital. Patient-centered care is of paramount importance to Dr. Miller.

Kathleen Rieves, MD
Primary Practice: Family Medicine
“I became a doctor because I wanted to understand more about the human body and help others understand it as well,” says Dr. Rieves. She strives to stay current with research, so she’s a reliable source of information for her patients. Dr. Rieves sees the doctor-patient relationship as a dance. “The patient leads and I follow, discussing what matters to them regarding their health. Sometimes, a patient has a complicated health issue, and we need to be detectives to solve it. Other times, a patient wants to change behavior, such as quitting smoking or losing weight, and we need to make a plan for how to do it. I try to listen to the patient and then act accordingly.”

Colleen Farnum, PA-C
Primary Practice: Gastroenterology
Colleen Farnum earned her master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Saint Francis in Albuquerque, NM, and has specialized in gastroenterology since 2013. “I understand that one approach does not fit all, so I embrace the challenge of tailoring medicine to meet the needs and desires of individuals.” Colleen began her career as a surgical PA in California before moving to the Roaring Fork Valley. Outside of work, Colleen can be found on mountain bike trails in warm weather or fat-biking on snow-covered trails in winter. She is enjoying raising her daughter in this wonderful valley.

Elizabeth Jackson, PA-C
Primary Practice: Family Medicine
“I enjoy teaming with patients to figure out the right health plan for their specific situation and life choices,” remarks Beth Jackson, who has practiced in family medicine, pain management and interventional spine. “I became a PA to have the opportunity to invest in people’s lives and health in a meaningful way. I enjoy getting to know my patients and being a part of their lives over the years.” Beth describes her communication style as direct, and she welcomes frank, thoughtful conversations. “It is important to address the issues that are the most worrisome to the patient, even if they may not be the most worrisome clinically. Over the years, this builds real connection between the patient and provider team.”
