Other Services
More Health Resources
For your convenience, GMA offers a host of other services designed to give patients greater control over their physical and mental health. Ask your physician or any GMA staff member about these additional services below.
Weight and body mass index (BMI) are limited measurements of an individual’s health. DXA body composition analysis is considered a “gold standard” for health assessment since it goes beyond weight and BMI to deliver an accurate and precise measurement of the body. By quantifying the fat mass and lean mass of each segment of the body, DXA can help show the benefits of improving diet, exercise and lifestyle. Note: total body assessments are an out-of-pocket payment.
Atherosclerosis is a condition in which fatty material collects along the walls of the arteries. This fatty material thickens, hardens (forms calcium deposits), and may eventually block the arteries. CIMT is an ultrasound test recommended by the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology to screen for heart disease in apparently healthy individuals ages 45 or greater. The CIMT assesses the lining of the artery and determines if there is a plaque buildup.
As the carotid arteries provide a “window” to the coronary arteries, CIMT is an independent predictor of future cardiovascular events, including heart attacks, cardiac death and stroke.
CIMT is a noninvasive test which is performed with a high-resolution, B-mode ultrasound transducer. The test is safe, painless and takes about 20 minutes. Individuals with the following risk factors for vascular disease should ask their doctor about CIMT:
- Family history of heart disease/stroke
- Overweight
- Increased cholesterol level
- Age 40 & over
- High-fat diet
- Tobacco user
- High blood pressure
- Diabetic
- Metabolic syndrome
If you are interested in a CIMT, we do accept outside referrals. Results are shared with your provider within a week’s time.
About 25 million Americans suffer from osteoporosis. This bone-weakening disease makes bones so brittle, they break easily. Fortunately, osteoporosis is highly preventable and treatable if diagnosed early. That’s why the bone health team at GMA emphasizes early intervention. Our certified clinical bone densitometrist conducts comprehensive evaluations and devises treatment plans using a DXA scanner and other state-of-the-art-technology.
In preparation, do not use calcium supplements 24 hours prior to your scheduled exam and bring a list of medications you are currently taking. Wear loose clothing and zero metal. Densitometry accepts outside referrals. Please come with or have an order faxed to GMA. Results are shared with both patient and the referring doctor in a week’s time.
GMA employs the most sophisticated ultrasound and echocardiography services in the region. Our certified Ultrasonographer (RDMS, RVT) and Echocardiographer (RDCS) provide caring, professional and cost-effective services—often with same-day appointments. You receive fast, reliable feedback and interpretation from radiologists, in addition to your diagnosis from your GMA physician.
Our echocardiogram exams are read by a board-certified cardiologist. Reports are available to your provider within 5-7 business days, and there is a separate fee for this interpretation. We also welcome and accept orders from outside physicians.
